West Vancouver Community Centre Great Lawn Safety Fence Design

August 2020 Update
Installation of the fence on the Great Lawn is currently underway.
Taking into account feedback that the primary role of the fence is to prevent people from running onto Marine Drive, the concept design was modified into the below specification drawing that was subsequently issued in the Request for Proposal.
The Great Lawn is a popular grass space located in front of the West Vancouver Community Centre (WVCC) where children and families play, community events are hosted and District programs are offered.
Over the last few years, increased use of the Great Lawn has resulted in the need for a safety fence between this community space and the busy Marine Drive roadway.
To address these concerns, temporary fencing has been installed until a permanent fence design is installed.
On March 30, 2020, Council approved funding from the Community Amenity Contributions to move ahead with a permanent safety fence for the Great Lawn.
Community consultation
The community was asked to view two fence design options and to choose their favourite. In total, 509 surveys were received with 63.3 per cent supporting Design Option A.
